One of the most sustainable student schemes in Leeds has been shortlisted for the Private Halls of Residence Award. The Student Accommodation Awards are hosted by Property Week, and will take place at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday 4th December 2024.

Carlton Hill was built by Leeds based Pickard Properties and completed in September 2023. The 15-storey building which is now leased by leading student housing charity Unipol, has 604 rooms ranging from 2-8 rooms per apartment.

This stylish building is located close to the University of Leeds campus and boasts shared communal areas including six sky lounges, two roof terraces, a cardio studio, bike storage, a landscaped courtyard and BBQ area.

Catherine Coleman, Director at Pickard Properties said, ‘This nomination recognises tech-savvy, networked spaces with flexible accommodation options, as well as offering a holistic student experience that also considers wellbeing. Together with Unipol, we’ve managed to create an award-winning student living environment supported by a programme of health & wellbeing initiatives.’

Sustainability was also top of the agenda when scoping Carlton Hill, it was designed and built to reduce carbon emissions, both in terms of the building's construction and operation. It has secured an EPC-A rating and is an all-electric development.

‘Unipol has an ethos of providing high-quality student accommodation at affordable rents,’ said Development and Compliance Director of Unipol, Tony Vyse. ‘Working with Pickard's allowed us to have input into the design and facilities from the very beginning. It was great to work with a construction business that places the same importance on offering a comfortable, sustainable, and community-focused living environment for students.’

Carlton Hill has already won the Student Accommodation Scheme Development Award at the Insider Media Yorkshire Placemaking Awards as well as The Yorkshire Post Business Excellence Award for Best New Commercial Development.
