Moving Out? Sort It Out.
We’ve teamed up with Leeds City Council and the universities in Leeds to help you deal with moving out like a pro!
- Start now – You always accumulate more things than you think. Start sorting through your things now as the end of June is just around the corner!
- Chat to your housemates – What's happening to the shared stuff like the Christmas tree?
- Don't waste a trip past donation banks or recycling centres - Especially if there's a car boot involved.
Barter it.
Can't give it a home? Find it a home.
There are lots of ways to give your things a new home and possibly even make some cash. Try online options such as, Vinted, webuybooks, Facebook Marketplace and the Leeds Student Group page.
You can also sell and swap in person at various upcoming events in Leeds. Keep an eye out on this page for updates.
Bank it.
Use donation banks in your area.
There are so many donation bank points across your area and you are never more than a short walk away from one. For exact locations have a look at this map.
Clothing, household items and books
Many of your local banks take all these items, but this year we have installed many more new donation banks to make this even easier for you. So, look out for the big green Revive banks. Revive Reuse is a Community Interest Company who work in partnership with Leeds City Council. Profits support their two member charities SLATE and SVP.

Food
No-one likes to throw away good food, so don’t. Here are some ways you can donate your wanted food:
Oblong (Woodhouse Community Centre)

- Thursday 26th June, 12-3pm
- Monday 30th June, 10.30am-12.30pm
Donations they'd welcome: Closed non-perishable food eg. tins, packets of rice, pasta, lentils, couscous etc. and jarred sauces.
They also accept donations of cutlery, pens, bowls and tea towels.
Rainbow Junktion Community Café
All Hallows Church, 24 Regent Terrace, LS6 1NP
Donate from 10am to 4pm Monday and Thursday.
Ring the doorbell.
Rainbow Junktion is unable to accept everything - please check the full list here and follow them on social media for their regular wish-list of items the community really needs.
Bin it.
Use the correct bin for your waste.
When you are clearing out, you might have stuff that can’t be donated. Sort through your waste responsibly. Don’t get dumped with £200 fine!
There’s a black bin collection every week. Make sure you make the most of every single one.
Download the Leeds Bins app for bin day reminders – don’t forget to update it when you move.
Use your green bin only for glass bottles and jars, paper, card, metals and plastic and the black bin for general rubbish.
To get more information visit Leeds Council's Bins, Waste, and Recycling Website.
Do not leave waste on the street or at the side of your bin. Only waste INSIDE your bin will be taken away, don’t leave any items on the street.
